Workshops

In 2008, thanks to the Moran Foundation of the Arts and with the generous sponsorship of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, there will be 100 Primary School Workshops held in primary schools throughout Australia.

Run in conjunction with the annual Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize, the workshops are free of charge and are available to groups of up to 30 students in a pre-designated number of Australian Primary Schools in urban and rural areas.

Each workshop will repeat the one-day format of the highly successful workshops run in 2006 and 2007. A professionally trained photographer with thirty digital cameras (one per student) and printer docks will come to each school to show students how to create individual, group and class works while they learn the basic skills of making and appreciating photography.

These workshops are an incredible opportunity for primary school students to fully engage in a cooperative activity while exploring the key concepts of individual, group and national identity. Feedback from some schools said the workshop was the most single engaging activity students had ever undertaken.

Following the workshops students will be able to enter the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize 2008 and have the chance to see their work exhibited at the State Library of NSW, on line and to tour Australia.
