Run in conjunction with the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize 2008 is a national photographic competition created to promote contemporary photography and excellence in all forms of still photo-based artwork, including all types of analogue and digital photography.
There are three sections in the MCPP – Open, Secondary Schools and Primary Schools. The total prize money to be awarded in the Open Section is $80,000 and in the Secondary Schools Section is $30,000. There are no money prizes in the Primary Schools Section – selected finalists in this category will receive a digital camera as a prize, plus a certificate of merit.
Entrants in all sections are asked to interpret “Contemporary Life in Australia” with an emphasis on portraits of Australians going about their day-to-day lives within their environment. Artistic images that reveal a genuine connection between the photographer and their subject/s will be well received by the judge/s.
How to enter
1. Select one of Enter Open, Entry Secondary, or Enter Primary from the pull-down bar. Read the full terms and conditions of entry for the section you wish to enter. You can read them online, or you can download a hardcopy.
2. Enter by filling in the online entry form and by uploading your entry/ies as a digital file/s (max size 5mb, jpeg format only). Please note: all entries will be judged on a large high-resolution monitor.
3. Closing time and date for entries is 4pm, 31 January 2008.
4. There is a $25 entry fee per entry in the Open Section which is payable online. There are NO FEES for entry in the Secondary or Primary Schools Sections.
5. Finalists in all sections will be contacted the week commencing 4 February 2008. Open Section finalists will be given instructions regarding delivery of their framed work for exhibition. Moran (at its own expense) will print, block mount and laminate School Section finalists’ entries to a consistent (A4) size for exhibition. Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted.
Winners will be announced on Tuesday 11 March at the official opening at the State Library of NSW, and in the media the following day.
